iPhone Duo game compatibility report: 94% support iPad, 4.2% have a result

As of October 24, 2026, the directory lists 214 games — 7 adapted, 2 partially adapted, 205 not checked. But 93.9% ship as universal iPhone/iPad apps with an iPad layout already, so running is one question and verification is another.

Data reportGames

As of October 24, 2026, Duo Tracker lists 214 games (106 in China, 108 in the US) from 150 developers. Seven records are verified as adapted, two as partially adapted, and 205 as not checked.

On those numbers alone, games look much like the rest of the site: 95.8% are still unchecked. But another figure matters more: 201 of the 214 games ship as universal iPhone/iPad apps, or 93.9% — they already carry an iPad layout, and the unfolded canvas is wider rather than narrower, so most of them run without trouble.

Running and being verified are two different questions. This report keeps them apart.

1. At a glance

Metric Value Share
Game records 214 4.3% of all records
Adapted 7 3.3%
Partially adapted 2 0.9%
Not checked 205 95.8%
With a result 9 4.2%
Universal iPhone/iPad build 201 93.9%

All 214 games have a record in a single storefront only; not one is listed in both stores. That is a clear difference from utilities or photography apps.

2. Games vs the whole directory

Metric Games All apps Gap
Records 214 4,989 —
Universal build 93.9% 69.9% +24.0
Adapted + partial 4.2% 3.7% +0.5
Not checked 95.8% 96.0% −0.2

Two gaps pointing in opposite directions: universal builds are 24 points above the site average, while the adapted rate is only 0.5 points above it. Games are not easier to adapt; they are easier to get running.

3. 94% of games are already iPad apps

The App Store API returns a features field, where iosUniversal means one binary supports both iPhone and iPad. Measured that way:

Category Universal share
Games 93.9%
Developer tools 89.1%
Education 84.8%
News 82.1%
Books 80.9%
Site average 69.9%
Health & fitness 51.2%

Games have the highest universal share of all 25 categories. The reason is straightforward: a game has to sell to iPad users, so it ships with a tablet layout from day one, while plenty of utilities are still iPhone-only.

The remaining 13 (6.1%) are iPhone-only, and all of them are unchecked — a mix of older titles such as Kingdom Rush Frontiers and Bloons TD 5, the Papa's series, and Dice Dreams. They may well run, but unfolded they will most likely letterbox or scale up.

4. Almost no chart game has been checked

Game records come from the Games category chart (203) or from no chart at all (11); none comes from the overall free chart:

Source Records With a result Checked
Games · top free 101 1 1.0%
Games · top paid 102 0 0%
On no chart 11 8 72.7%

Of 203 chart games, exactly one has a result (Happy Elimination, rank 6 in the free chart). Meanwhile 8 of the 11 games that are on no chart have been checked — they arrived through visitor feedback and manual intake.

That explains a number that is easy to misread: 4.2% is not how well games are adapted, it is how many of the checked games someone happened to ask about. The chart games have not been judged unusable; they simply have not been reached.

The 102 paid games with zero checks are the clearest gap. People who pay for a game care whether it is worth the money, so a result is arguably more valuable there than for a free game.

5. China and the US

Region Records Universal Adapted Not checked
China 106 97.2% 3 102
United States 108 90.7% 4 103

Each region also has one partially adapted record, so results total four (3.8%) in China and five (4.6%) in the US. China has a higher universal share (97.2% vs 90.7%) and fewer iPhone-only games: 3 against 10. Both regions have single-digit results, so the gap says little.

6. The eight games with a result

Game Region Status
Happy Elimination (开心消消乐) China Adapted
美职篮巅峰对决 China Adapted
极无双2 China Adapted
绝区零 (Zenless Zone Zero) China Partially adapted
Asphalt Legends - Racing Game United States Adapted
UnGodly United States Adapted
Sneaky Sasquatch United States Adapted
Retrocade United States Adapted
Zenless Zone Zero United States Partially adapted

Nine records cover eight games — 绝区零 and Zenless Zone Zero are the same title in two storefronts. All nine are universal builds; none is iPhone-only.

7. What game compatibility actually measures

For a game that already supports iPad, compatibility is rarely about whether it launches. It is about:

  • Aspect ratio: does it fill the screen, letterbox, or scale a tablet layout up to a wider shape;
  • Touch layout: are the virtual stick and buttons still comfortable, or have edge controls drifted out of reach;
  • Fold and unfold: does switching form factor interrupt a session or reload a scene;
  • Peripherals: controllers, cloud saves and account switching behaving the same in both states.

That is why a universal build is only the first filter: it rules out a broken layout, not the four items above.

8. Conclusions

  1. Games are among the lowest-risk categories on iPhone Duo. 93.9% are universal builds with an iPad layout, and no game record is marked not adapted.
  2. 4.2% is a coverage figure, not a quality figure. Only one of 203 chart games has been checked (0.5%); for the rest, “not checked” just means nobody has looked.
  3. Games get verified through a different path. Eight of the nine results come from apps that are on no chart, driven by feedback rather than by working down the chart.
  4. The paid chart is the biggest blank. 102 paid games, zero checks — and those are the users who most need a verdict.
  5. For readers, the two signals should be used separately. Check iPad support to decide whether it will run, then check “adapted” for the quality of the experience. The site only shows the second today; the first still means a look at the store page.
  6. For the site, the next step is a sample, not a higher rate. Testing the top 50 of the Games chart would produce the first meaningful game compatibility rate, and surfacing the universal flag would make “will it run” checkable.

9. How to look up a game

  • Open the Games list, which holds all 214 games and filters by status: adapted, partially adapted, in progress, not adapted, not checked;
  • For apps already confirmed, narrow the app compatibility list instead;
  • Search matches game name, developer and App ID;
  • A missing record or a blank status does not mean a game is unusable — usually it just has not been tested. If you hit a problem, the feedback form in the footer is the fastest route; game reports go to the front of the queue.

Method note: the universal share comes from a batch check of every record against the public App Store API on October 24, 2026 (features containing iosUniversal). 4,981 of 4,989 records returned data; the other 8 are treated as missing and excluded. Compatibility status still comes from the directory's own verification records.
